Bobby Ryan Is An Ottawa Senator. Alfredsson Who?

Bobby RyanWell of course his happens after my big Free Agent Frenzy post but the Ottawa Senators have acquired Bobby Ryan from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Silfverberg, Noesen and a first round pick.

This came as a shock as long time captain Daniel Alfredsson left one a one year deal to Detroit. Ryan will definitely help fill the void that was lacking by an aging Alfredsson.

Great pick up for the Senators and gives them that much more fire power down the playoff stretch. Ottawa is going to be a team to watch for the next few years.

Anaheim however will also get a great player in Jakob Silfverberg. The 22 year old was a hard working left winger for the Sens and also played a big part in their playoff pushes in the past few years. Give him a few years to grow and mature and I think this kid will do wonders.

All in all though, what a day for the Ottawa Senators.

  1. As a Ducks fan and blogger, this move represents a huge fail for the Ducks org. Bobby Ryan has talent you build on and the fail is Ducks inability to do it. Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry are entering their prime. Silfverberg is at least another year or two, if ever away from replacing Ryan.

As hockey legend Sam Pollock practiced, “The team that gets the single best player in multi-player trades wins.” Right now the single best player is Bobby Ryan.

Don’t kid yourself, this was not a hockey trade. It was a salary dump by the Ducks. Here in SoCal we can’t properly value this trade until we see what Murray does with the cap space he created.

    1. I realize that it was, Bobby Ryan is by far the best player out of the mix. But give Silfverberg a chance, I believe he will develop into something worth while for the Ducks org. If they don’t trade him.

Not all is lost on The Pond.

      1. Ducks are still good hockey team. I would have preferred that they did a 3 fer to acquire an established 2nd line center to compliment Ryan & Selanne. A guy like Isle’s Frans Nielsen.

St. Louis is crowded down the middle after signing Derek Roy. Do they move Bacckes to LW or trade Berglund?
